I've given up planning trips on the boat this summer.
So I'm going down to the boat to sort out my roller reefing line (if I have it long enough to unroll the whole genoa it's too fat to fit on the drum so I can't roll it all away -what was that TK was saying about hanked on headsails in YM?), I'm also going to service my bilge pumps and oil my tiller.
That way the weather gods will think I've given up on actually trying to get out of the marina and so they might just provide some decent sailing weather. (Hopefully they won't notice when I sneak onboard with the Shell Channel Pilot and a load of grub.)
As a solution to your roller reefeing line not fitting on the drum you may like to consider something similar to ours. The centre core of the rope has been removed for some of the length. i.e. the length that fits on the drum. This is standard practice on some roller furlers so it may be you just need to do something about your reefing line. The line then rolls up flat on the drum.
Going to LeHarve by ferry to collect the boat we abandoned there on Tuesday. Too much wind earlier in the week to get her home to Portsmouth. Looks like too little, and in the wrong direction, this weekend. Oh well at least the diesel tank is full. Anybody want to crew?
