What\'s a sailor look like?

As we all agree on what makes a classic boat (*), can the forum tell me what makes a true sailor? Assuming he might have a day job, what constitutes the essence of him/her. Is it time spent, the right boat, seamanship skills, craftmanship, affinity with the sea or the determination to go out there despite it, any other?

(*) ha ha.

more money than sense - however small your purse?
Beside my bed i have roughly 15 part read, or unread books (on sailing), my boat's documents including engine repair receipts etc, (sad, i know), latest copies of CB magazine & others strewn and a handheld VHF. And clothes... Reading the biography of Peter Blake by Alan Sefton at present which starts slow but is great read.
Haven't got any tidetables yet, though...

Re: What\'s a sailor look like?

My collection of about 200 books contains about 150 titles relating in some way to sailing. I don't have a book of tide tables because I have a program on the computer which tells me. I'm a Life Member of the local Cruising Association, and I am custodian to a 90-year-old gaff ketch which is rapidly sending me broke. My CB collection goes back to issue No. 2. My collection of Wooden Boat mags [going back to No. 1]has gone to the local Wooden Boat Association. I'm not necessarily a sailor, but I am definitely nuts!
Peter.

Someone who can smile as they struggle through life because they know they are only there to get funds to expand the time available for sailing!

They come in all levels, but you can recognise them by that self assured smirk, cos they know it!
