I came across this picture when tidying up the family collection of slides. Nobody here can remember the event in any way. Judging by where the slide was found, it was probably taken some time in 1996 - 1998.004.JPG
Any suggestions?

Looks like you nailed the boat - and fits the timescale perfectly.
Endevour replica came to UK in 1997, visiting Whitby and other locations
Do you remember when the Endeavour Replica came to Whitby? - Whitby Museum

And was due to visit Scotland, calling at Leith, Inverness and Greenock between end May and June 1997 - Revised schedule of Endeavour replica's visit to Britain
So now just need to identify the port

That seems to explain it then, Endeavour replica, Leith, summer 1997 as I was living in Edinburgh then. The only remaining puzzle is why I don't remember it at all.

The remaining puzzle is easily solved by looking at the date on your birth certificate.
