What viscosity Engine Oil in a Johnson 6hp 4-stroke

Looking at a thread on another forum, apparently the equivalent is a FC-W 10W40 or 10W50. Don';t know whether that helps at all though.

Rob.

Can anyone tell me what viscosity 'Johnson Ultra 4-Stroke synthetic blend' oil is? The handbook tells me the capacity but not the spec of the oil.

Thanks,
Nick
ITYWF that it is NMMA Certified FC-W® 4-stroke oil, SAE 10W-30/40 (SF, SG, SH, SJ)
but any 4 stroke outboard engine oil will be suitable.
Quicksilver is a brand which is readily available.

Thanks for the answers.

I also have a Yamaha 2.5hp which can use either 10w30 or 10w40 so looks like I will get some standard automotive synthetic 10w40 and use that in both of them.

Cheers,

Standard automotive and inboard engine oils are not formulated for the high revs at which outboards operate

Really, I would have thought that a good quality fully synthetic automotive oil would have been as good or better than a standard part-synthetic marine oil.
They say that the outboard oil is formulated for an engine running at 5000- 6000 rpm.

No point in risking an oil which may not be suitable when a suitable oil is readily available.

My Honda 4-stroke strimmer manual says max. revs. 10500-11000 and I use car engine oil in it. MInd you, I'm sure that I don't rev. it that high and neither do I rev. my Mariner 2T 3.3 very much - who wants all that noise?
