What type of rope is best for fore and aft mooring lines? I'm intending to shackle through eye thimbles to the chain riser. Is that the best way?
I use nylon lines with eye splices round galvanised thimbles.
I have two lines from the buoy at the aft end and two lines from the buoy at the bow. Seems to work ok.
The trouble is that I've seen too many bits of polyprop line crumble to dust after a good dose of UV. It starts to look a bit hairy and there it is 'wedi mynd'. (It's Welsh for 'gone' just to confuse you.)Cheep polypropylene, slightly over sized diameter
Will have ample strength & will wear just the same as anything else if it goes over a sharp edge
I have found lifting strops work best for me, are easy to check for wear and come in different lengths and strengths with reinforced eyes.

Nylon is better as it stretches to reduce shock loading
Same here, but not cheap blue. I use the orange, I believe that it is more resistant to uv.Cheep polypropylene, slightly over sized diameter
