What to put in my Grab Bag

I've just bought a "posh" Grab Bag which has made me think of getting a bit more organised. I am going to put in:

water
seasick tablets
handheld GPS and spare batteries
handheld VHF
small compass
EPIRB (PLB type)
flares
a few euros

...getting a bit full now but anything else I should have?
 
spare specs
copies of driving licence and boat certificates, insurance,
crew-specific medecines
spare car keys, house keys
Credit and debit card details, and contact numbers
Waterproof paper and pen
Pack of cards
Heliograph
Small folding kite
Waterproof matches or storm gas Clicky
Bottle of fluorescent dye
Text and picture phone numbers for BBC, ITV, etc news programmes

That's a great looking boat. The folding arch looks really neat. Loads of fun guarenteed!
 
it's smart sort of mirror, usually with hole in it for aiming at the target.

I'm serious about a two-cord baby kite; increased visibility, the potential to make progress across the water; an encouragement for the crew to undertake a positive contribution to safety, fishing away from the liferaft, etc. If you use a mylar / aluminium tail, the radar profile is improved, too.
 
Thanks, I was well impressed by the DIY description by the author

Author's signaling mirror made from 3"x4"x3/16" plate glass from which a 1/4" spot was scratched from the silvering on its reverse. I found center by drawing lines from diagonals, and used punched out plastic for drawing circle. Scribe was tip of very sharp paring knife. You may want to duct-tape edges and back. Signaling done by casting shadow spot on finger nail aligned with target. Note that reflected image at 20 yards or so is round, not the shape of the mirror!
 
Spot on, well done, prudent action.

Mine is the same as the last time <u>I checked what was in my grap bag</u>. It's worth repeats cause some folk don't carry one.

Remember - SAFETY is about having the right attitude rather than just a load of equipment giving a false sense of security.

Probably worth dropping your wallet, passports and SWMBO's jewellery into re-sealable bags on arrival at the boat and keeping them in the grab bag whilst at sea....the ability to check into a hotel room and buy a stiff brandy or two may well come in handy....although I very much hope it never does!!!!
 
Torch and spare batteries and bulb- LED head torches are ideal.
Sharp safety knife.
Basic 1st aid kit.

If you have a liferaft be careful you re not duplicating things too much if space is precious but bare in mind you might not end up in the raft though...

Also remember to seal it properly (usually roll the top over several times and then secure it) or they will leak badly.

Various Peeps on the Forum who have actually spied mine.
Reckon it is Counter Productive.
They reckon is so full and heavy it could provoke a Capsize!

Got to have something that will give you some quick energy! I keep a couple of Mars bars in mine! always eat them at the end of season and replace them for the new season!
