What to get the boat for its birthday?

2022 will be a significant birthday for Avocet, she turns 50. The question: what to get her?

As the sails are also 50 years old (and a bit baggy, it has to be said), I was wondering about a new suit of sails, but we've grown fond of the original tan sails over the years, so I think any replacements would have to be similar.

Any rough ideas what a new, slab-reefing main and Genoa for a 27 foot masthead sloop might cost, please? The originals were made by Jeckells.

I have dealt with them before. The Genoa was hank-on and we asked them if they could re-cut it for roller reefing for us. That was a good 25 years ago now. They were amazed at the quality of their old sails even back then. Must admit, I'm quite looking forward to letting them see their 50 year old work! OK, the boat doesn't get sailed that hard (or far) and ultraviolet isn't really something we "do", up here in Cumbria...

The best present we were given for our new boat was a set of hand towels with the boat’s name embroidered on. They don’t make her go any faster, but I enjoy them every time I use them.
