My wife is giving me grief that i have several years subscription of MBM and MB&Y, some PBO's and a few Yachting Life mags filling several drawers in our coffee table in the Lounge.

I'm very reluctant to toss them out, as i still look back on them for reference.

So what do you advice i do? And what do most of You do with yours, where do you keep them???

Please Help!!!!!

Alistair.

If you need to keep em, just buy a few archive boxes - the cardboard collapsible sort and one of these will swallow loads. Bung them in the garage or into loft. We do this with all necessary paperwork and 'might want' items too. Cheers, Roy

My goodness - some of you are well behaved (is this being mobos ? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif - as a raggie this is about my first foray onto this forum !) - we now have about 15 yrs worth of YM, PBO, YW and some ST (sorry IPC!) and have had to have special bookcases built - throwing them out would cause HWMBO apoplexy and, were we married, to seek divorce !

The textbook (or "Scuttlebutt") answer seems to be that you carefully go through each magazine, taking out the pages containing relevant articles that you realise, presciently, you are going to want to refer back to in five years' time. You then enter them on the index that you have set up on your PC database, file them in a fireproof cabinet, dispose of the unwanted magazines remains and sit back, feeling very satisfied with yourself.

The problem with taking this approach, and telling others about it, is that they come round to your place with all their copies of MBY and MBM, and use them as kindling to set fire to your house, thus disposing of their storage problems and an irritating smartarse, in one fell swoop.

If you come up with a more workable solution, please let me know, as I have several hundred copies of Q magazine cluttering up my house and SWMBO is getting very tight-lipped about them /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

I am a real saddo and have about 15yrs worth of MBY/MBM's stacked in little neat boxes in my office for easy access. When there's nothing happening on the forum, I can while away many a happy hour leafing through old issues. I do find them occasionally useful for looking up old test reports on boats I'm thinking about buying

I can vouch for Mikes collection. He kindly faxed me a 4 yr old boat report last year. I guess keeping them forever has it's advantages.

Buy them for 5 years and keep them all, recycle them on a monthly basis and you'll replicate what the mags do anyway ;-)

Wallpaper the bog with your favourite pages...that way you solve the storage and reading problem in one go. Looks nice, too (in a slightly eccentric bohemian way). And you can just keep pasting new pages up whenever you feel like it. Was going to do this with my old copies of Razzle, but couldn't bring myself to cover Sophie of Salisbury with wallpaper paste.

Its good to hear i'm not alone!!!
Just to put the record straight, I don't want to get rid of them.
I like Deleted User's reply, I think i'll need to buy some boxes to store them in.
And i've recently been looking back on old copies when i was wanting reviews on the Princess 33's, and some electronic items.

But i've just thought of another solution,
I just subscibed my darling wife online to the National Geographic magazine.
So at least now, it won't just be my mags making the place look untidy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

Alistair.
