What to do with diesel remaining in "cunning filter/funnel"?

Being incredibly environmentally friendly/conscious (?) and also not wanting gunge in my tank I bought one of these filler-funnels. Not cheap.
Slow to use but acceptable.
BUT........ What does one do with the fuel that is left below the filter element thingy?
I reckon there's about 50ml.
I can't tip it in the oggin (not at all EF) and messy to pour into a "dedicated receptacle" - even if I did have one.
Seems to me to be a bit of a no-brainer-product. Or have I got a faulty funnel, rather than one from which all fuel drains?

You use your other funnel (mine is the top of a plastic bottle) to decant it into a gallon container reserved for the purpose. Same as you use when checking the primary fuel filter/separator, or when doing a filter change and you need to tip the fuel out of the old filter before binning it.

The waste diesel comes in handy for soaking rusty tools, or starting a wee bonfire on the beach.

I got one of those. So little got through that I gave up on ther basis that I was unlikely to live long enough to fill the tank! How did you do it?

Fortunately I had applied Factor 50 sun-screen otherwise I'd have been done-for. It was SO slow - perhaps I was being charitable when I stated "acceptable".
I suppose the only way round it is to fill clean cans first (using the funnel), assuming there isn't a queue at the fuel pontoon. Then fill your tank with the cans. But I have only a wee 4 gallon tank, that wouldn't work for "big boys" and MOBOs.

Hi there, great weather last week!
That's one solution I suppose, providing your prepared to carry various "waste" cans around. Space in Khamsin's lazarette is taken up so not conveniently an option.
Now, because I don't carry a can for emergency draining of filter etc, I am bound to suffer a calamity at sea.........

Do what I do, pour it all over the cockpit :/

(not one of my finest moments that, took ages to clean up and I'm hoping the lingering smell of diesel has gone by our next trip)

I don't find it that slow by the way, then again I'm filling from 5l and 10l cans so can't pour that quickly anyway

I use one of these to fill my 2.3 outboard as a defence against water, so I do lots of small fills and would have quite a high proportion of waste if I whizzed it. My Ob has been much more reliable since I started this regime.

So unless you already have a big problem with the fuel the residue is mostly clean, so you could return it to the can. When I get to the end of the can I dump the last cupfull if there is any evidence of contamination.

I use a racor version and it is impressive that you can fill it with water and none goes through. The bit at the bottom of the funnel collects water and dirt and I simply transfer it to an old 5l water bottle with a wide top. It could be emergency diesel or used for fires etc but you can see the water in it. It is not overly slow if you buy the correct size but you do need to keep the funnel full as it only maintains its l/min when the whole of the filter is submerged. I also find that filling it in such a way as to encourage a whirlpool is quickest, I presume as it keeps the filter clean of debris.

Had the same problem last week filling from 4x30l cans. Solution was to use the old funnel to pour dregs into a lemonade bottle... there being few recycling facilities where we are the bottle went into the rubbish bin at the boat yard.

PS I was surprised how quickly the filter worked - it is the Racor one
