It looks like I will have access to a drying outhaul mooring. The bottom is shale and some rocks. I am allowed 10 ft boat but that could flex to a maximun of 13 ft. What would the assembled good and great recommend that i look for. I hope within 5 years to have a deep water swinging mooring for the bigger toy.

thoughts?

Do you mean it's a dinghy launch, that is you can haul the boat out on a launch trolley so it's clear of the water, or do you mean it will be beached on the shore and may float at times.
It makes a big difference.
And is it secure? Would you want to leave a nice dinghy like this National 12

or a Laser 13

Or could you squeeze a Wayfarer at 15' 10" in?

or would a slightly rougher boat be better?
Would you need to drop the mast when leaving it?

So many questions. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

half tide mooring with roughish bottom. I am veering towards something roughish that can take the ground and not be destroyed.

Home Built?

Our current dink (bit over 10 foot), which rows and sails like a dream, is a Danny Green design called Cameleon, a two-piece job. Its taken many, many hits on reefs, etc. and I made the skegs from sacrificial timber for when they get wormy out here.

The current version (first one stolen), I made from 5000 series alloy using 2.5 mm for the bottom plates and 2.0 for all the rest, final result was 1/2 the price and 2/3 the weight of glass over ply.

It was still stitch-and-glue (sort of): for the stitching, I tack welded alum fence wire onto the cut sheets, then twisted together, then tack welded.

If you cant weld, you can still do 90% of the work yourself with wood working tools.

Best yet, when you get a larger boat, it can be a dynamite tender!

If you want more details, I can email an article I wrote and am going to get around to marketing One of These Days about it.

Best regards,
Michael
