What software do you watch your drone footage with?

If I just want to watch what I have shot with my DJI Mavic I have always just opened the file in VLC media player. but I have just downloaded the new version 3.03 and now videos that played perfectly well with the old version will not play. I just get a dark green screen.

Can anyone point me to some free software that will play back raw DJI mavic files?

Or tell me how to get VLC to do it again?

I assume you mean that you want to run it on a PC.
VLC is one of the best but I did find that Kodi played videos that wouldn't play on VLC.

I expect that it is you PC isn't fast enough.
What record settings did you set on the Mavic?
Probably 4K and either 25 or 30 FPS
4K does require quite fast hardware to play back.

Try running on a fast Android - that sometimes works.

Alternatively, you could try loading the KDENLive free editing software.
KDENLive allows you to set up Proxy clips that match your actual clip.
You the edit the clips (using KDENLive) using the Proxy clips.
Editing this way can be done with a relatively slow PC.
When you are ready to render, KDENLive will make the video in the appropriate resolution.

I target 1K using 4K clips - i.e. 1920x1080P from 3840x2160 clips (Not the Mavic's default.
That way, I can play on a standard HD 1080P (1K) TV.

In my opinion you are better shooting video at 1080P rather than 4K

4K just sucks data and causes problems when playing and does you playback equipment even have a 4K screen

Also can your eyes see the difference

I agree, in principle but shooting in 4K gives the opportunity of zooming the clips when editing later.

Actually, the Mavic Pro has two 4K resolutions
One is 4096 x 2160 (which I think is the default)
I set mine to 3840 x 2160 so that the aspect is the same as 1920 x 1080 (1K).
That means my 4K clips scale into 1K without any black side/top/bottom bars - thus no post editing for unzoomed clips.

I use 2.7k because 4K was always a bit jumpy on old VLC. Old VLC played the 2.7k ones fine but the new one will not.

I very rarely edit my footage, I just want to be able to watch what I filmed.
