On a 40 footer?

I had all my anchor chain out to mark up 10 meter marks, and found a 1 inch shackle joining 35 mteres to a further 10 meters. what kind of dick could put a tiny shackle on an anchor chain /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif - answer - the previous owner!!!!

Anyway - I now have 35 meters of chain - and either need to add more - with correct link - YM was useful on this, or add 50 meters of Octoplat. I think I favour trying octoplat - less weight - stretchy etc. so what size - 16 mm?

16mm will be fine, unless you need to pass an octoplait splice thro a small windlass opening.
I've just done a tight octo eye splice onto a shackle to facilitate removal from chain.
And I agree 35mtrs of chain is plenty.

Just a bit worried that it looked quite thin! - I have already bought it! and felt I needed a little confirmation - as in 2009 we will be cruising the med when it will be used in anger - with the new 20kg Manson Supreme - which is so easy to set compared with you know what (nod, nod, wink, wink )
