What sealant for an auxiliary outboard bracket?

Hi

I'm about to fit an aux outboard bracket to the back of my Merry Fisher and have just realised I have no idea what sealant to use...

If I never wanted to take it off again then a polyurethane of some kind, but I may need to take it apart in future and wouldn't fancy my chances of getting it off.

So I guess I want something strong and elastic but easily cuttable?

Cheers!

Cheers, yeah I’ll do that.

Although I think I’m changing my mind on just bolting a bracket on the back corner… Going to look at getting something a bit better made to bolt the bracket to.

Post a pic of the support / bracket

This is the only photo I have… testing it out for size on my fence.

And this is what I think I want to do with it. The red is my imagined plate which would bolt through the transom, which should be plenty strong enough as it’s already got 250kg of engine hanging off it.

If needed it can be braced to the side of the outboard well I think.

This will also help slightly with the boat wanting to list to port, I don’t really want any more weight on that side. (It’s got Zipwakes fitted now which has levelled it out).

Be significantly stronger if you can also bolt it to the starboard transom higher up
But does it need to be that high ?
Will the motor interfere with the sensor below when in use ?

Modern Outboards are v reliable, think the general opinion is to look after the main OB rather than fitting an extra motor

Thanks @simonfraser good points.

I’d hope to bolt it from the top corner of the red plate to the inside face of the outboard well with a decent spreader behind - I already have access to get to there from behind I think.

The transducer is short enough that when the bracket is dropped down the outboard leg will be behind it. (If not I can move it if required to the other side.

I understand the argument for looking after the main outboard and that will be kept on top of and I’ll make sure I always carry separate fuel, but things can always go wrong.

On my other orange & blue boat I’ve helped tow enough boats in with no back up engine that I don’t want to chance it, if only for the embarrassment of having my mates come and rescue me 🙈
