I'm also thinking the engine, bolted to the 'false transom' will be vibrating like all two-strokes do, and a proportion of that vibration can be isolated from the boat, by the right choice of material between the metal surfaces on the plywood transom and the inboard end of the bracket.
I've ordered the 1.2mm nitrile gasket material Spanjaard recommended. Not the cheapest solution but I can see various other uses for the stuff. I'll report back.

Well ... it is a pack of 2.
You can always resell the 2nd sheet on the For Sale forum and get some money back.
