What quick ties for boat cover?

I've started using a cover to protect the woodwork when I leave the boat... Does anyone have any suggestions for a quick tieing/untieing solution? At the moment I'm just going round doing endless knots onto stanchion bases. Thinking I could maybe get some sort of bungee solution going...?
Thanks,
Crisp

I make up lengths of bungee cord with a hook at each end.

You need:

Bungee cord
Hooks. Preferably s/s but plastic coated mild steel ones last a long time.
S/S hog rings
Hog ring pliers

All cheaply available from eBay sellers.

We call them Occy Straps in Australia.

What about these. available other places. Also look at sail ties. You don't have to use bungy. Any suitable cordage will work.

Bungee type solutions are not always ideal for covers. Too stretchy and allow the cover to "bounce" around in any wind. Rope or straps are a better option with some type of quick release system.
I have a serious aversion to bungee cords with the metal hooks as a good friend of mine lost an eye some years ago when one came off unexpectedly and hit him in the face.

They used to use them in West Australia when they were collecting shopping trolleys around the car parks at shopping centers but now they are banned by law for that use because one came unhooked and hit the young guy in the throat, his throat swelled up, he couldn't breathe and he died.

If you use them be very careful

These would be an overkill I suppose but good for a whole lot of other situations as well.

Mine had eyelets in the cover, a knotted bungy loop through the eyelet and hooks something like this on the GRP Just hook it on.

The loops are no more than a few inches long, so too short to do any damage if they try to escape, plus no nasty metal bits.

Canvas sits much more quietly in wind if bungee is used to attach it. I don't have a boat cover but we often used a tarpaulin as a cockpit tent. The stress on attachments is much less with bungee and the elastic damps down any movement. What clips you use depends on what there is at the stanchion bases to clip to but I would prefer fairly deep clips like some of the ones shown above.
