to put himself,through what can only be described as torture!! Sir Ranulf must be IMHO suffering from some kind of compulsive disorder, and a desire to self destruct!!!
I'm only jealous!! I would need heart transplant after a mile !!!!

It's proving to oneself one can still do it and not believing that age is a limitation, especially in endurance events. In my case, aged 64, I've done two, one-day 100+ mile bike rides (av speed 15-16 mph) in the past 6 weeks with no ill-effects. No comparison with the feats of Sir Ranulf, but it's a great sense of achievement especially when people half my age fall by the wayside at 65 miles/forums/images/icons/smile.gif. The last time I did such a thing was about 42 yr ago and then I averaged 12mph. Well, there were few more hills in the West Country and the Peak District.
p.s. From one of the above rides I raised over $7,000 for charity, but I mustn't mention that word here/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
