I would be interested in the forums views on which PDA is most useful. I am looking for one for work/play and if using on the boat would like to be able to run some form of chart plotter/interface to GPS.

Any thoughts?

Richard

Whilst not strictly classed as a PDA the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.notebookshop.com/store/product1.asp?CustomerID=291253&ACBSessionID=26xdbb1y7fGGaaomehrt&SID=1&Product_ID=572>Fujitsu P5020</A> would get my vote every time. If it wasnt for all the money I am spending on bits for the boat, I would have bought one of these some time ago.

Use an HP 5450 which with added memory cards runs everything I need for work (customer records, email, web), car (Tom Tom navigator) and play(charts and ordnance survey maps). Screen is great for its size as long as you're not expecting dedicated chart plotter detail or ease.
Loads of add-ons available from expansys at good prices make it a very versatile tool. Heavy duty laptop would be perfect but size and cost limit it's useage for me.

I have a garmin ique 3600, and very leased with it.. carries all my work contacts, can do email etc thousands of bits of software out there, but best of all has built in GPS, mapping, turn by turn directions etc and will load Bluecharts.

It's not a marine prodict so keep it dry, but in our pilothouse it serves as a chartplotter and backup GPS very well.

Only drawback is the cost of the bluecharts and a short battery life -- easily fixed with 12 volt charging system.

all the best

Yup, I have a HP 2210 with Tom Tom for the car, Maptech for the Boat and a cf and sd card
works a treat and is very portable
