Hi all, i have been given a outboard and i am having problems working out what it is. So far i believe the name on the box is a red herring even though it might actually be a enigine from Crescent/volvo pinta etc. There are no serial numbers no Vin plate and no markers marks that can help me. Photos on the internet i have found seem close but never actually close enough to be 100% that it is one or the other. All i can tell you is that it has been sat for about 20 years and it runs like a dream. I am a total novice with engines and i am not even convinced i know what it should be run on etc. I can not see a oil filler so i can only assume it is then a 2 stroker? Any info you can give me no matter how small will be a massive help.

We had 5 hp Cresent for years, magic engine seemed to run on the smell of petrol and oil.

We got it second hand and it had 10 worked hard great engines, the stop button looks the same as ours, as well as general layour but ours was single cylinder..

The fuel connection was push and twist as well, if that helps...

The blue paint certainly looks like a Crescent and the design of the recoil starter is similar to a smaller Crescent that I have. It is a 2-stroke as the carburettor is mounted on the front of the crankcase. From its age I would expect it to need a 25:1 petrol/oil mixture.

lots of help so far guys, thank you. The best guess i had before was the 140 which is why i figured the top was a redherring. so for someone to say the same confirms to me i'm heading in the right direction :-)
