As it says, I've just bought a Mercury 8hp 4 stroke electric start to replace the Mariner 8 2 stroke which I discovered is a standard shaft thus not long enoughThe boat is a twin keel Leisure 23SL, weight around 2000kgs.
Having decided to go 'easy start' I now have the problem of upgrading the rubbish but almost new bracket that came with the boat, as it's not up to the 40kg weight - in truth it doesn't even help with the current motor - lets it down fine, but is a joke in the other direction. I don't mind having to push it down a bit but the whole idea of having springs is to aid when lifting rather than just having pretty bits of coiled metal.
So, I'm looking for recommendations for a bracket that will actually help lifting the motor. In the USA I've seen a very well recommended Panther bracket, but with the postage it works out very expensive. Garelick likewise, but some reviews are not as good. Here, in France, I can buy Osculati, Plastimo and Lalizas, but can't find reviews. Many / most say they are only for 2 strokes and look suspiciously like the thing I already have and intend selling to some unsuspecting Frenchman.

Help please ! ?
