The skipper owns a motorboat, he decides that the time has come to sell, for a long time he's been blithering on and on about the risks involved in buy/selling a boat and the likelyhood of a broker running off with his money on a mainstream internet forum, to such an extent that his local broker declines to list his boat for sale.

He tries a few other brokers, all of whom feel the same and decline to list his boat.

What should he do next?

But has he used his real name or that of his boat. Internet anonymity. :encouragement:

Set up his own brokerage and charge himself 10% commission and set the sale price at 50% of similar boats for sale. The buyers will be queuing and fighting to buy his precious boat. And maybe he'll trust the broker selling it. Possibly.

But he won't Trust the buyer will he!

Brings back memories of a previous forumite whose complaints about the builders of his new boats (was it two or three?) were so lengthy and widely publicised that I am sure there is not a dealer in the UK who would touch him now.

Man up and do what everyone else does..........
Clean the boat within an inch of its life and get ALL junk off.
Decide how much you need to get for the boat,so that when the right offer comes ,thats it !
As you bought the boat for the right money in the first place, you did one assumes ?, you will be able to sell it at an attractive price, bearing in mind the market.
The boat may sell instantly or take 6 months, we are aware of this.
Keep the boat available for viewing. As the boat is kept locally and not 200 miles away this of course will not be a problem.
Sort out a nice sunny day photo preferably with boat out on water, not in marina with a layer of snow on covers.
Advertise it on all free websites including out of the box stuff like Preloved and Gumtree.
Filter your calls and request that any prospective buyer coming any great distance, rings just before he leaves, otherwise you will not be at boatyard.
Ignore any body who asks how much you will take for the boat without viewing it and anybody who makes an offer
under similar circumstances.
Basically you want a buyer who wants your boat, he will be out there somewhere you just need to find him.:)
Personally think that trusting/getting on with whoever is selling boat is 50% of a deal.
