Hi,

Just put a Racor 10 micron fuel Filter in (R225 spin on) and want to get some spare elements, only to find that the 10 micron elements (R26T) are no longer available in UK, only 2 or 30. I believe the engine has an 8 micron filter in it (Yanmar 3GM30), so 2 is clearly to small in the primary filter.

So would it be OK to put a 30 micron element in as the primary filter? I guess it would still prevent most of the rubbish passing into the engine?

I believe I can get 10 micron elements from the US (although even Racor UK couldnt help me get them in the UK), but am about to depart cruising so would be a real hassle / expensive to try to get them in time, vs get 30 micron filters in UK.

Many thanks as always for your anticipated expert advice!

Either would be OK...

I'd reckon either would be OK. There's no reason why the primary filter shouldn't be more effective (lower micron number) than the engine-mounted fuel filter. I guess you've already tried ASAP Supplies for 10 micron elements?

I use ordinary CAV-type primary filters, and I think their elements are now rated at 6-9 microns.

2 micron is probaly too efficient I would go 30 micron. This is perfectly adequate for diesel fuel and if it you try and it proves OK I should stick with it.
