Someone who
  • Doesn't have a "sound system"
  • Doesn't lay a ridiculously long scope "just in case"
  • Leaves room for other boats to anchor
  • Smiles and waves when other boats arrive
  • Doesn't have kids on board
..... over to you .....

I'm having trouble anthropomorphizing myself into a geographical feature;)

From the POV of other boats in the anchorage, lying to chain rather than rope and chain tend to reduce your likelihood of a coming together in the early hours.

Me too.
Best of all is to anchor beside people who aren't overly beset with opinions about how others should behave. Also I find it quite nice to see young families with kids enjoying themselves.

Don't be a grumpy git... Not all of us have forgotten are youth. Unless its because you will see the fun they are having and be jealous? Then my tip is chill-out and join in...

May be a geographical thing but...

Are kind enough to swim away as you come in to anchor
Don't run a generator all night to keep their aircon going (sailing boats)
Don't run a generator to keep their violently blue underwater lights on all night (motor boats)
Most important bit of anchoring etiquette - put out their fenders

But I find that nearly everyone who succeeds in anchoring is pleasant and good to be around, having fun swimming, playing music, throwing kids off the bow amidst happy screaming, piling 10 people into a 2m rib and falling into the water on the way back from a restaurant if there is one and all those other great things that you can't do in a marina
