Hi,

I visited my Oceanis 361 on hardstanding over Christmas and on a final walk around the deck just prior to leaving I noticed that the lens in the steaming light is missing. The light still works. It was getting late in the day and there wasn't time to get half-way up the mast to take a look at the problem.

Does anyone know for sure the make of steaming light fitted? I'm parked next to another Bene and a Jeanneau and they seem to use the same lamp so hopefully it's commonly available.

My plan would be to buy a new light (at the show) and just use the lens. I don't want to make 2 x 250 mile journeys to resolve the problem, if I can avoid it.

Thanks for your help

Ours on our Sunfast 36 was like that with no lens. The bulds were realy expensive and only lasted a short period due to there exposure. Replaced it with a Wetline 25 combination unit last year and this uses standaed domestic 10w halogen bulbs which come compete with lens cover and are much cheaper to buy and so far have lasted much longer.

The cost of a combined steaming/deck light can vary from £15 to £ 60 or so depending on where and when you buy. They will all be essentially the same. I would be tempted to source a cheap one and replace the whole lot adding the wiring for the deck light down the mast as you probably already have the below deck wiring.

Beneteau 323

Our Beneteau uses Aquasignal Lighting .. Might be worth a look on their website

Might be one of these Here

I was going to answer earlier saying that the Aqua Signal series 25 combined light (deck and steaming) appears to be the one that has no lens cover over the bulb. It's a nice bright 20w halogen deck bulb though.

It's likely to be the Aqua Signal series 25 light though on this size boat. The series 40 have mounts that are underneath rather than at the back.

As others have said - perhaps replace with a combined deck/steaming light... although thinking about it now.. that's a bit tricker! If there is a decklight switch though on your switch panel - then perhaps the wiring is already there to somewhere in the headlining under the mast step - fingers crossed.

There's an Oceanis 361 near me now.. I'll take a pic of theirs in the morning in daylight and report back..

This one is on my Beneteau Oceanis 361. However it's a combined steaming and deck light and was not factory fitted (and I don't remember what make is it either!). But if it looks similar to yours probably could help.

Many thanks to all.

Martin, I've googled the aqua signal series 25 and from memory alone it looks like the lamp fitted to my mast. Your confirmation from a nearby vessel would be greatly appreciated.

That's the problem with living 120 miles away from my boat......it's not always a simple task to check out a few basics.

Thanks for the offer to cmedsailor, too, but for now at least I just want to fit a new lens to protect any further damage to the lamp by exposure to the elements. For sure a combined lamp would be nice but in a cold January I think I'll save the investigation for another day!

Sorry it took a few days - the weather wasn't great.

Attached is a photo of what is on a nearby 361. Apparently it is the original and for what it's worth, the bicolour on their bow has a small square push button on the bottom and the owner says they are Aqua Signal.

It looks like this has a push button as well.

The original bicolour on the bow of my 2002 Beneteau Oceanis 361 is a Hella (as well as at the stern and anchor light).

Many thanks, Martin,

The picture looks about right  and I've ordered one by mail order.

I'm hoping that the weather is kind next weekend and I need is to press-gang a mate to winch me up (SWMBO says she isn't strong enough) and hopefully get the job done.

My switch panel shows "deck light" so while I'm replacing the lense I'll look for an additional, unused wire. If there's one to be found, I'll up-grade to a combined unit when it's warmer. If there isn't, still not sure that I fancy adding a new wire within the mast, going through the deck, headlining and back to the panel.......

Personally when I go up the mast I do all the work. With a good pair of grippy wellies and leather gloves I do the climbing. The person at the bottom just has to tack up the slack in the [two] halyards.

Yes - can get to the top this way in a couple of minutes on the 47 foot mast that my avatar shows.

Good luck.

I still have a doubt as to whether those were Aqua Signal on my neighbours boat. I was intrigued by the square button at the bottom of the light.

Aquasignal don't have this button - unless they have updated their lights.

I am coming to the conclusion that they are neither Aquasignal nor Hella.. since either of these would have had a name moulded into the top [of the bicolour].
