I single-hand this, but it is a bit of a handful as it isn't really set up for it.

Sea Rush (1973, Westerly Pentland, 31') is my dreamboat & has been for 25 years, not found anything yet that I would swop her for. Lots of newer boats, smaller boats & bigger boats but all come with issues I wouldn't want.

It always puzzles me the queues of people trying to go aboard huge Discovery/Spirit etc yachts at Boat Shows. Even if I could afford half a dozen, I wouldn't want one. By around the 40/45 ft mark, you can have a non-caravan boat with plenty of pace and space for two to four for coastal cruising, and if you plan to go long distances an ultralight Sundeer/Deerfoot type gives truly fast passages with low crew requirements.

My ideal boat for two would be a quality modern fast cruiser - maybe an Arcona as all the current Swans are too big except for the too-racy 42.

Oh yes, and despite my unlimited bank balance, it would not have real teak decking! I've had teak decks.

I agree, regardless of bank balance I wouldn't want anything bigger than 45' at the most. I suspect most of the people queuing up to gawp at the interiors of huge boats are probably grockles out for a day-trip rather than even remotely-potential purchasers.

(Obviously some of them won't be, or the boats wouldn't be there.)

Row away factor

Zagato Chris,

you obviously haven't got a copy of 'Watercraft' magazine yet if you think Cornish Crabbers are the bees knees !

My boat occupies my dreams quite fully, but when I win the lottery I'll have a fleet ( with the A22 as flagship ) from Salcombe Yawl to a custom 44'ish steel blue water boat; a Mystery and a Rustler 44 might feature too.

A Falmouth Working Boat - pictured -would HAVE to be included, and a Rustler 33.
-------------

A sailor takes an accountant friend out for a trip.

The accountant remarks " so, you pay thousands for a boat you can at best use 2 days a week ! "

" No, I use her 7 days a week "

" How so ? "

" 2 days a week I sail her, the rest of the time I dream of her ".

The Westerley Pentland are great yachts; your looks good too.

I have a Macwester wight sloop (31ft) and able to just about sail it single hand. I have sailed many nice yachts but are either too big for single hand sailing or too small, or too expensive to keep or too deep draft, or single keel. Hence my choice to suit my requirements is very narrow.

Exactly my view. I used to think my cockpit a bit exposed, but since I had the double sprayhood arrangement it's fine. I used to like the Wight - before I bought Sea Rush, which is a very similar boat!

One boat is not enough.

I would ideally have:-
one of these for cruising.
one of these for evening racing.
this for posing and living on
and this to annoy Dylan.

Ex-SolentBoy,

well I certainly go along with the Rustler 24, but the other suggestions might have me reaching for this, or maybe I could raffle having a go with it and make another fortune, or just charge Dylan :) ...
