What is the nearest new boat to a CO32 in 36'

Re: What is the nearest new boat to a CO32 in 36\'

Neither really,

I have an AWB, and a friend a former CO32 owner who now has a CO26 tells me he sailed across the pond in his CO32 and wouldn't do so in an AWB. It occurred to me that the Swedish yachts of today are as safe if not more so than the CO32 but are not really designed for the same roll as the Contessa. According I was wondering what was the modern day equivalent, a yacht that is as save as houses, cuts through the waves and has a decent turn of Speed. I had thought of the Dufour 34's and 40's but they are probably relatively lighter than the Contessa. I am not looking to replace my boat, I just wanted to see if there was a consensus.

Not sure what David Sadler would have said at the time, but there couldn't be much doubt that what he did was to create a boat that was tough, could easily race to her handicap, but was also a One Design, and offered more internal space than ever before. This all made her a pretty good cruiser, short and far. There was no real cost competition in those early days of production yachtbuilding.

It was really that last reason that spawned my X-Yacht comment. Tough, safe, fast, not built down to cost. A JJ says though, the Dufours look good, as do the Grand Soleils.

I've done a heck of a lot of racing on CO32s, and would point out that they are embarassingly quick in quite a range of conditions, and a hugely successful one design - but cross an ocean in one? No thanks. X or GS please.
