There seems to be 3 Almanacs at present, The big and small versions of Reeds/OKI, The Cruising Association book and the small PBO version.

Ignoring the format and layout of each which is a personal matter and ignoring the geographical areas which are obvious in the title, what is the difference in CONTENT of the three. IE what is in or not in each book. Suggest you compare the CA book and PBO with the REEDS as the reeds is probably better known.

What is the forums findings on browsing or using them.

I bought the PBO small boat almanac recently and learnt a few things:
1) there is a corrections page published by reeds so you need to update it as soon as you buy it!
2) the tidal charts may be OK as a rough guide but local variations are very significant - recent trip round Angelsey proved the 0.5 knott tide illustrated in the PBO almanac was actually 3knotts! and thats at neaps. Check with the local pilot/guide as well!
3) the tidal curves aren't always sufficient or large enough for plotting HoT at secondary ports (minor quibble)
4) if you have pilots/guides to your local cruising ground, you probably don't need the bigger Almanacs. However if you sail in lots of places and don't want all the guides then an Almanac is sufficient for everywhere.

hope that helps
