I've been helping a friend out today on his new (to him ) Carver32 and right at the back of the flybridge on the deck just below the gaurd rail there is a black hard plastic ball about the size of a golf ball attatched to the deck by a metal bracket about 3" square . The ball spins round but there is nothing underneath it ( in the wheelhouse ) Above it clamped to the gaurd rail there is a looped metal bracket , the loop is maybe 3" and this folds down and may have something to do with it . The boat was shipped from the USA and was used for fishing . Any ideas ?

Whatever you do, don't touch it unless something is wrong with the hull. All Carver's have these and so do a number of boats built after 1981. It's regulation in the US that these are built in under US law, Regulation 251, section C.

It's called the "Central Adjusting Pin", or CAP for short and it is attached directly to the "Giggling Pin". It is there to adjust the hull shape. The CAP pulls the the hull back to the correct line. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Actually as he just called me to say he moved the hoop the other way and its directly in line with the ball . I think it's to hold a boat hook . The hook goes through the loop and locates on the ball .
