This morning in Yarmouth I was struggling to get a mobile phone signal and tearing my hair out trying to send an email. Now we're out in the sticks behind Long Island in Poole we've got 3G+ and it all works perfectly.

Also with Vodafone but Yarmouth was very poor for the whole of the time we were there.
We get 3Gin Yarmuff OK with Vodafone and I'm on it now in Poole (at Parkstone YC). Poole is rated as a good signal area for Vodafone 3G as is Yarmouth but Lymington is not yet it works better than on the Island side.
Robin, you are out of date, 3G vodafone has arrived in Lym, well most of it including the quay area but sadly not my house, my garden yes but not the house!
I've heard tale of these new fangled electirc lights are going to replace the gas lamps next week as well.
What is the world coming to....
I got my info from Vodafone's coverage map! Anyway I'm back on YC WiFi now, I complained about it not working last night and this morning and nobody knew what how when or where then having said could do nowt it magically reappears within seconds. I must have frightened it into action! We're waiting for a window to go west to Dartmouth then on south to Camaret, without hopefully having to bash upwind hard all the way in rain.![]()
On my recent tour of the south coast solent - penzance, I can report the only place i managed to get 3g on my vodafone dongle was in falmouth (premier marina). Everywhere else reverted to GPRS (salcombe, dartmouth, portland marina, penzance etc...). apart from helford, mevegissey and fowey which could not find a signal.
Well best of luck, the weather looks like wordromoved, etc, oh for goodness sake I only c r a p into infinity at present. We're off for a land based holiday near Pontrieux next weekend with the kids and grandkids and we're taking oilskins, playnig cards and vast amounts of beer and wine tokens.
Did you try an extension lead? I'm on 3G here again in Poole now as the WiFi is naff again and it is GPRS in the cabin but 3G with the dongle dangling on the extension up top.
I can only pick up mobile calls on my mooring (on the Beaulieu) round about High Water.in order to get a signal up Beaulieu river I had to put my phone in a bag, then hoist the bag to the second set of spreaders .... then the phone rang!! Doh!
Yes but only a 4m extension so not quite to the top of the mast. praps i should take the pc up in the bosums chair next time.
I think mine is 5m it is what I use to put the Hawking WiFi dish outside on the coach roof.
