why do people troll? Is it just fun for them?

[/ QUOTE ]

I would hazard a guess that it's the same as in real life - low self-worth, feelings of inadequacy, envy, personality disorders, etc.

Having said that, I sometimes feel that the 'troll' label is used excessively on here, or maybe I'm just naive.

A Troll is rather like a serial killer.

Part of their satisfaction is how long they can go on without being caught. They very often conform to a pattern of development of postings (some may suspect Trolls have multiple identities) and sometimes persuade others that they are a perfectly innocent newbie. Those sympathisers may themselves be Trolls acting in a supportive manner to defray the flack from the original Troll.

Very often the Troll leaves in high dudgeon after being rumbled.

All good, clean fun - sometimes.

There has been a run of daft threads created by "different" people which seem to have been from one individual.

If everyone filled in their personal profile ( which I note you havent done) with your boat name and location, it would be very easy to identify if your having us on. This way, the likes of VikingChris are easy to spot.

A boat name and a location is very easy to check if a troll is suspected.

Don't shoot the messenger. I was just answering your question.

Ask the Trolls - or yourself?

Sorry phantomlady (good handle by the way) but you do not have to prove, show or publish anything on my behalf. I think you should just carry on as you are. I really enjoy the entertainment..............

.............It is may be a case of, if the cap fits though !

Many folk have deleted there personal details, for that very reason. I've had my partner threatened with murder on here and another prat googled and found our names and address, then posted it in the same thread.

Still think it's a good idea.

Re: what is a troll? Lou1971?

I found him great which is probably not a good thing.
I am usually only posting on technical themes as i find the forums great for getting help with problems.
I also read many other topics and I have seen how easy it is for people to get mad or takes sides or be offended etc.
I think Lou1971 was a troll, but I really liked his sense of humour and his innocent below the belt quite offensive posts. Some of the funniest things I have ever read.
He was banned in the end.
