What is a fair price for a lift ?

Would like boat out for some work for a couple of weeks and have thus far been quoted £357 and £212 from another local yard.

What should be the going rate for lift, scrub and two weeks storage for a 10.3m boat around the Solent ?

I think there ripping you off mate. i usually pay around £120 for my sealine 365, and i dont moor too far from you,

At the chandlery barge Swannick it would be about 200 for your boat. inc vat and storage ashore and wash off. Easy access M27, helpful chaps, cheap antifoul etc..

Interesting that this topic has come up again, my little 24 footer cost 126 quid each way.

I'm in the process of writing to the BMIF to challenge the principal of charging per foot to lift a boat. There is no relationship (IMHO) between time taken, weight of boat etc to length of boat when lifting.

The same equipment is used by a yard and the same labour and time, so the bigger your boat (up to a point you need two men to control it) the more you get ripped off.

Engineers charge about £45 / hour for skilled work - it doesnt take anything like that to lift and chock a boat by a yard hand - I watched them do my boat, 1 guy, 1 tractor and lifting cradle - 30 mins max. So that make it £252 / hr !!!

So as and when I get a response from the BMIF I shall post it up.
