I'm a Biker as well as a Sailor, and use the bike forums. By comparison, this forum is much less chatty, much more informative, and certainly less abusive and prone to foul language. Bit serious and middle aged middle class?

But in the end, after your 33rd "how do I fit a windlass" and your 26th "white smoke from the engine" threads you have a choice. Either switch off or post about something other than boats. Have a bit of banter with like minded souls. Not everyone can be serious all the time.

Bit like a newspaper. Read the cartoons if you wish, or the obits if that's what gets you going. Chose what interests you!

I agree with ... er ... lots of you: I've had some really useful advice, and a fair few giggles which have been bounced on to other friends around the world. And I hope I have reciprocated when I can by providing info on Dalmatia or Italy.
I find the balance about right: seen in flat form, it doesn't take much to skim through individual posts to get to the ones that interest me, so it doesn't take much to 'fast-forward' when a pair of postees take over. Besides, a bit of humour is needed. Compare YBW with some of the oh-so-serious US ones!

Utter nonsense, Mica. There's a great deal of knowledge and experience on these forums, and what's wrong with a little banter here and there?

Your post made me think about a similar subject raised quite some months ago.

See, my last question in that post is still open - in fact, I did not find any better alternative so far.
