If my poor Part 1 registered boat than never did me any harm gets traded/sold, what happens to the registry & name.

I assume it could be de-registered and then the name changed.
But if it's keep registered does the new owner HAVE to keep the name ?

The new owner gets the option whether to keep the existing name or change it unless you specifically request the Registry to transfer the name to your next boat

Do a name change of your boat on the Register to some other name before you sell the boat. Don't know about the British Register but most registers will then reserve the old (or any other) name for you to use on your new boat (usually a time limit but can often extend that if intentions are genuine) when you register that.

If your "new" boat is not new and also happens to be on Part 1 then you do a name change on that to your old boat's name that you have reserved. That assuming British Register reserves names.

Each of the above steps incurrs a fee.
