Boathow.com. I thought that this was to be the definitive subscription based service for the marine industry. I had registered to it but can't get onto their site anymore? Has it gone the way of other internet companies or is it still going?

yes, I subscribed to it too. Now they're taking £4.00 a month off me, and I can't email them to cancel it as the email address doesn't exist. So far, WorldPay won't cancel it for me as they say I should contact the supplier.

Has anyone else managed to cancel their subscription?

By being gullible.

I assume from the tone of your email that you have never made a mistake in your life.

I finally managed to get an answer out of WorldPay and they gave me a userid and password to get to an administrative site where I could cancel the agreement.

I signed up last year and noted that they went off-line around march. A few days back, they took £25 from my bank via worldpay. I emailed worldpay and told them that Boathow was not on-line and was refunded within a few hours.

I probed a little deeper and found that Boathow is actually hosted on Globix servers. I called Globix and they confirmed that Boathow is no longer with them.

After many enquiries by email and left messages at boathow, I managed to get through to someone at boathow. They denied that they had been off-line for a few months, but did confirm that they are having technical problems at this time. I therefore suspect that they are certainly not in any position to provide the service they have charged me for.

Also they do not seem inclined to refund my account for the time they have been off-line. They do however seem quite happy to sit back and let money roll in from subscribers via worldpay.

As a result, I have now placed this matter in the hands of the trading standards team in Southampton. Hopefully they will be swiftly sorted out.
