Just watched the stalls and princess Matilda ........... Eyemouth to Newcastle with just a stop at Amble? What happened to the Farnes? Bamburgh? Dunstanburgh? Newton haven? Blyth? and the host of other gems missed ........... Must have been a very fretty day when that was travelled!

Oh burger, have I missed All At Sea? Hopefully the black box has recorded it. You’re right that any programme about sailing from Eyemouth to the Tyne must surely cover places like Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh, the Farnes and even the Eyemouth cliff’s. But Blyth, a little gem? :-)

A gem indeed...... Try the bombardier hmmm nectar.

To be fair, I don't think they have the skills or a suitable vessel for some of those destinations.

True, but I know they were in Anstruther and that was not mentioned at all, although one of the maps with the dotted lines did show a diversion into that part of the Forth but no name.

Don't worry, Dylan will spend half a decade on the Northumbrian coast when he gets there in 2018.

Can't wait! It always seems much more interesting when the subject is somewhere you know.

Oh, and as a matter of public record, I would like to anounce my radar reflector has been on national television!

Yes I was most disappointed at the lack of shots as they motored down the coast.
There's no excuse other than bad weather and I suspect this is because for much of the voyage the Spalls and camera crew aren't onboard.

As soon as Tim sees a bit of North Sea hobble, its abandon ship and let a hired crew get bounced about on the barge!
Then when the sea is flat and the sun is out, nip across in the tender once she's entered port.

Is it me or does that engine seems loud - I'd invest in some more soundproofing.

When they left Scotland at the end of the previous program he said they were heading for Seahouses. As that is where one side of my family comes from, I was looking forward to it. Maybe they didn't enjoy it?

Indeed regardless of port of call princess m could have taken the inner sound past the Farnes in the shadow of Bamburgh castle! And still caught the pilotage down the coast to Amble. Must have blown up a huley or a frett set in. Never mind another month and we can sail it again!

Perhaps it was all "too dull" for them; it seems slightly odd that someone that can boast about "doing a museum in 15 minutes" and that they "did Varsailles" in 18 minutes (I think), has the staying power to remain on board the damned thing after it's passed through the harbour entrance...!

Why would somebody have so much pride in their own ignorance? Found it all a bit irritating really.

I thought that they seemed to have missed loads as well as some of the most spectacular Northumbrian views. As said in the previous show he mentioned the Farne’s and Seahouses but nothing was shown on the next show. I suppose they can’t show it all and it is not really a sailing /boating program but still an opportunity missed. On the other hand it is called the Secret Kingdom and that’s why its so unspoilt (in the main) my wife’s family are from Cheshire and were surprised when they first came up to find unspoilt beaches picturesque villages etc I think they expected coal mines and whippets and the grinding poverty of a Catherine Cookson novel.

Many years ago my Dad showed me a brochure from the English tourist board. The cover showed Beadnel beach in Northumberland. He looked closely at the picture and said "that must be a bank holiday, there are 6 people on the beach!"

They are a bit of a miserable, unenthusiastic pair. Couldn't be bothered to climb the hill and actually visit Warkworth Castle.

All very downbeat apart from the intro at the start which was recorded a some years ago.

I think they've lost interest and so has the producer.

as a well known satirical magazine might put it

"Barge with two people on motors from one port to the next" - hardly news

Trouble is that most of their 'adventures' are a tad repetitive and if they are not going to make best use of the natural features and tourist traps as they tootle around the UK then there is not that much to attract an audience. Was it always on BBC4 or has it been demoted from Beeb 2?

I will... I will

I will, I will

assuming we all live long enough of course

not many harbours cannot acommodate the slug and I aim to visit every viable harbour along our wonderful coast

sadly my cameraman, sound man, producer, head of catering, boat maintenance, spread sheet jockey and laundryperson is only part time as well

he has to keep on going off to do news shifts and other non-sailing related hackery

of course it would be possible to go full time on KTL should I suddenly become independently wealthy

or for the mortgage company to decide that they are happy for me to stop paying them, for my children to drop out of university, my elderly rich as Croesus Uncle to die and decide not to give his money to the donkey sanctuary after all, petrol prices to fall, Equitable life decide to give me my money back or more sailors to start buying cheap as chips DVDs about an ugly bloke sailing an ugly boat around the UK.

seriously though....

I had hoped to spend this winter on the Humber and the wonderful blokes at the Humber Yawl club had offered me a hole in the mud. Eldercare responsibilities arrived rather suddenly over Christmas but I am back on schedule to get to the Humber by the beginning of April, spending a coupe of months exploring the river system before moving onwards towards the Tyne. No idea if I will get to Scotland this year - seems unlikely as petrol prices are really starting to bite into the budget and I have to think carefully about every tank of petrol - as are you blokes I am sure

But thanks for your interest and support

I now know that the market for sailing DVDs is a very small one - although I am told that the DVDs are now well copied throughout the sailing community

It seems that if you load up your boat with Raspberry Pis you'll be able to do everything without leaving the cabin. People have got masterful plans for all sorts of computer wizardry.
If it all goes tits up you could always eat them.....
