Can anyone point to good article on the subject, or would a knowledgeable forumite contribute something here, of what greases are good for what in general across the needs of your average yacht? Water-resistant, anti-corrosion, ....
Not only, what grease is good for what purpose, but for each common type of grease are there any uses for which they are particularly unsuitable? When and where is it important to use just the right thing?
I use Keenol for the stern gland (I'm lucky enough to have a c.50 gal tub of the stuff which a foresighted father-in-law once bought). For the seacocks I use that special (i.e. expensive) Blakes grease and would otherwise probably use Keenol. For other jobs I tend to use either a silicon grease or Duckhams LM (a general-purpose lithium grease).
Alan.
