The new boat has a Nanni 3.100HE engine. I've tracked down an old manual for it which specifies 'Automatic transmission fluid, Type A'. From Googling I get that Dextron II or III might be the modern equivalent but then I got confused. :-(

Someone will know!

Dexron III sounds right ..... but is this for the engine or the gearbox or are they the same?

Chances are it's a ZF hydraulic gearbox ZF63A perhaps ?), in which case use a good quality automatic transmission fluid from your local motor factors.

Richard

what gearbox do you have

According to the online manual the engine uses API CD , SAE 15W 40 oil ......... so not for the engine

The gearbox may be a Hurth or a Technodrive. The Hurth uses ATF type A . The Technodrive uses API CD , SAE 15W 40

The conclusion is that it is a Hurth gearbox Confirmed by the OP

It's a Hurth gear box - HBW 100.

The on line manual for Hurth HBW gearboxes merely specifies ATF !
