Hi Folks,

I have owned a 2.3 HP Evinrude outboard since I bought it new in 1994 to drive my tender. Since then it has been around the world with me but, for the past five years, has rusted gently in the focsle having been superceded by a big Yamaha. Now I've overhauled the poor old thing and its ready to roll - I hope! Only problem is I can't find the owner's manual and can't remember the fuel mixture. Can anyone help please?

Go to the www.iboats forum (stateside) where you will find experts more than willing to share everthing you will ever need about your outboard, very helpfull people indeed. JBD

My evinrude 4 (mid 90s I believe) runs on 100:1. Not sure exactly on the 2.3.... isn't there a label/badge on the side near the fuel connection (there is on mine)??

You can use 75/ 100 /1 if you use a "correct" synthetic oil for an outboard of that vintage. Less chance of "whiskering" the spark plug etc. posted a reply in a bit more detail on 05 05 06 don,t know how to "retrieve it" know more about things that go ring de ding ding ding than puters! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hello again,

I'm most grateful for the helpful replies. And especially grateful for being pointed towards that useful website in the US. Thank you all.

I have the 3.3 version of this in Johnson colours, it is of similar vintage and still starts first time, every time.

Apart from running in, I have always used 100:1. I remember talking to an outboard guy (at Emsworth marina), he told me that with the latest oils 100:1 is fine. Although the Johnson handbook said 50:1, he believed it was writen pre-latest technology. Well, time has proven him right.
