What flow rate filter for 3.0 mercruiser?

Hi, got an old 3.0 mercruiser 140hp, which has the standard filter on the fuel pump, but wanted to add a primary fuel filter / water seperator from the tank. What sort of LPH figure would it need to be so as not to restrict fuel flow and thus perfromance at WOT?

I used to use the old automotive cav 296 filter on mine these are rated at 10 imperial galllons per hour.

Interesting idea, my only concern with that is that the elements seem to be for diesel only (apprently petrol can break down the glue in the filter), which is a shame as I have a spare CAV filter sitting around that I could use. Seems Racor did a petrol rated compatible element but not anymore.
