What FFS Now Skip?

I think epervier is waaay too chilled to get strung out by the loss of 20p's worth of leccy and that the answers to the question really depend on the person answering. Remember the situation is that the male boat owner has returned to be greeted by a female apologising for having hooked up to his electricity cable.

A few suggestions:

Errol Flynn: "My dear, do step this way and see what a real power lead can do."

Terry-Thomas: "Ding-dong."

Julian Clary: "Well that's fine, so long as I can have a go when you've finished powering up."

I take it from the above that you don't like sail boats. You could then say I'am sorry I have had to unplug your lead as I'am using the full amps allowed to run the drinks cabinet, sat TV, ice maker and on board jacuzzi. I'am sorry there's not enough to run your single light bulb.
David

It's not that I like or dislike sailboats it's the attitude of these particular owners because their mode of propulsion is supplied by nature, free wind, that they appear to have thought that it would be ok to take my electricity for free, if I hadn't returned when I did they would have used it and said nothing, as they were gone before six this morning
if I had all the listed items you think I have, it would all be irrelevant because the point is, they would be my items, powered by my electricity.

And I assume by your comments that it's ok to help yourself to someone else's shore power, because it's only a light bulb.[/QUOTE]

It was said as a lighthed joke on my behalf, as I did.nt think it was true

Hard to ask if he isn't there isn't it? Better to seeth for a while & moan on here I suppose to wind up MoBo/ Raggie angst.

Steve, I'd admit I was a bit pissed off, seething if you like, because it's not the first time, they are also members here, the bit that made me angry is, I WAS there to ask, and I would give it gladly if asked, but he chose to wait until he thought I'd buggered off then plugged in, and on my return got his wife to say the excuses.

To moan on here is a vent, but it was not intended as a motorboat/sailboat spat.

Suppose I should be more benevolent, after all they only have the weekend to go boating whilst I have every day for the rest of my life.

I would have asked if they intended to use a lot of current such as powering an immersion heater. I would have explained that there might be a chance of the meter tripping out if we both did this at the same time.

Knowing how little a sailboat might use (without the immersion heater on) then I wouldn't even have bothered to point out the fact that the electricity wasn't free. It's a cheap way of making friends after all.

Forgot to mention, it's a bloody sailboat!!

...but he didn't mention which sailboat it was.

No, disconnect your extention lead and take it back on your boat then start your generator.

On second thought they would probabley think it ok to run their lead though one of your port holes and plug it into your tv power socket.

What interests me is that so many replies on here suggest a response that stoops lower than the errant plugger. I prefer to retain the high ground, behaving like them just lowers the tone of the whole area.

As Ghandi pointed out, "Violence begets more violence" and it is equally true of mere bad behaviour.

I think I would be tempted to ask politely what they have got plugged-in, to work out the approx consumption, to ensure that sufficient credit is available. Neither of you would be very happy if the credit ran out at an inopportune time. If it is a substantial draw, like the calorifier, or heaters, then I would be happy to ask for them to top the credit up, again politely.

You're on a pontoon with no shore power other than security lighting, but you are allowed to run your own extension lead to your boat, fed from a credit meter ashore, that you have put your money in.

Your extension lead has two outlets, you go from the boat for a couple of hours upon returning find another boat taking a supply from your second outlet, a blond pops out from her cabin and says "I hope you don't mind we've used your extension as ours isn't long enough to reach the shore supply meter"

as always, there are no right or wrong answers,

But What do you do/say Now Skip?

Forgot to mention, it's a bloody sailboat!!
As others have suggested, a couple of hours isnt really going to cause you any financial hardhip, and the blonde did come forward and say that she had plugged in, and was that ok? Her alternative was not to have any power until you returned.
I dont know how your meter charges, but most marinas charge about £3 a day for short stay electricity, which is probably way over the top for most people's consumption in the summer.
Your choices are to be mean spirited and remove her source of power, ask for a miniscule donation, or agree its fine.

I use the same power source and on one occasion, I think it was David's coz I'd flattened my battery and needed to get underway before the tide left us high and dry and his was the only power source within reach of the boat... he caught me at it too, doh:D the financial outlay here is pennies, I've run a 2KW heater overnight when staying on board in the winter for something like 50p, if that... the lecky is very very cheap at this place so maybe that's the issue, so cheap, nobody'll bat an eyelid... also, a quid lasts forever so you rarely use it all yourself, someone else tends to plug in to the outlet at some point before your deposit runs out... I guess it's more about the principle of assuming someone else, that you don't know, is ok with you taking something from them without first asking if it's ok irrespective of the value of the thing... whatever these folk needed the lecky for, I'm sure it could have waited for David to return so thay could take the opportunity to ask first... just common curtesy really, that I chose to ignore as I was a desperate man the first time I nicked David's lecky (sorry again mate:o )
