So out of idle curiosity, I always look at the ads in the back of MBY each month to see what market prices are like for our F37. Over the last few years there have always been 5 or 6 for sale at any one time, but that has dried right up.

This month, there's one 2000 (for £155k) boat and one 2008 (so I guess new stock at £235k), and that's it.

What can we infer from this? All those that were getting out already have? Owners of this 'Solent Mondeo' have decided there's no point trying to get out in the present climate and are sitting tight?

Just curious...

Not sure that the ads in MBY/MBM are a good guide to whats going on in the market. I think maybe some brokers/dealers are not advertising anymore and relying solely on the internet. I don't know what other forumites do when they're looking for boats but I go straight to the internet and don't bother with looking at the mag ads anymore
Seem to be a lot of F37's for sale HERE
I think you are right though in that I'm sure there is an element of people sitting tight and not advertising their boats for sale because a) they know they'll get a lousy price and b)they worried about the future and don't have the confidence to upgrade

Interesting site. I had a look at S37's (my boat) and have never seen so many in one ad. Strangely the pricing is wierd. One dealer is asking £308k and several in the £200k mark where the true asking price for a 2002 is around £120k. What going on there?

re pricing.. seems Rightboat.com have a similar problem with the pricing. First, I thought maybe it was something to do with wrong exchange rates, but even that doesnt explain it. Lots of meaningless prices...
Of the half dozen or so boats that I know have gone through recently, the asking prices havent moved much, and the agreements are in the range of -10/15pct. So, a tad down, but I havent seen any fire sales. These were good boats, mind you.

May be as F37 owners they have realised that they would need to part with quite alot of cash to actually improve their boat. Sealine did a good job wth this boat and it's more of a Granada than a Mondeo. imho.

When yout think about it, £100K on top wouldn't get you a much better boat, a couple of feet longer or a couple of years newer, hardly worth it, especially if you know your own boat well and it's reliable with all the little bits done. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I put my P360 up for sale Aug 2008.

Felix for sale here

I had a lot of enquiries then and I had one firm offer, I could have sold it but decided that it was worth more to me.

I didnt feel guilty at letting the foreigner buyer down, he had pushed and pushed for a cheaper price until it wasnt worth me selling.

It was the right choice, I feel £110k is better in GRP than a Bank/shares/property right now.

With the exchange rate he could now pay the full asking price now and it would still cost him less than his offer.

I havent had a serious enquiry since Christmas.
I havent been back in touch with him or any of the potential buyers.
My reason is being concerned about where to put £100-£110k.

I suppose I could make even more cash safe by investing in even more GRP /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The odd thing with the Princess 360's is the advertised prices are increasing, they are advertised now for substantially more than they were 4 years ago, could some believe that a Boat is producing a better return than any other investment . /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Not trying to give answers, just putting my personal reasons across.

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gifIs that how it feels.

Not really, but I sort of think of it as a 'popular, mid-range family' boat, built in large numbers and usually a high turnover item. More Mondeo than BMW M5, if you get my drift. N.B. This is NOT an attempt to get into the 'what car marque equals what boat' debate again... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think some sellers have wised up to the fact that the only buyers in the UK market at the moment are foreigners. The £ has dropped 30% against the € in the last 18 months so any boat priced in £ looks 30% cheaper now which is, why, of course, the foreigners are buying here. So, probably some sellers have increased their £ asking prices to get back some of that 30% but IMHO, foreign buyers are not stupid so they'll just look at a cheaper boat

You can also factor in that there has been a bit of a fire sale over the last few months, a lot of the decent stuff is getting thin on the ground now. Those that thought by hanging on and on till the prices became ridiculously cheap and they could steal a bargain are a bit disappointed now cus what they were after is gone.

I have one potential customer really pee'd off cus he hung on and on thinking we were going to dump a particular part ex we had (nice boat and not exactly cheap but fair price) but we got not far off asking after six weeks on the market, he was down every weekend looking at it and smugly saying I be back next week and you'll take £30k off the price , hmmm, well two weekends later he saw the under offer sign on it and you'd think I'd stolen the boat off him with the verbal he gave me /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Personally I think nice clean stuff will be in reasonably short supply in another six months at the prices we are seeing now and even new build will start to increase in price as production levels trim down to demand.

I have told one or two customers a particular piece of equipment is sold when it isn't just to piss them off because I didn't like their attitude /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I wonder if boat dealers do the same?

er, I hate to say this but yes. Some potential customers you just know in your heart of hearts are trouble with a capital 'T'. Absolutely no issue with genuine folks who understand boats etc and I would send an engineer 100 miles or more in 24 hrs for a good client but some are just completely unrealistic when it comes to warranty or service and expect 100% immediate call out even if it is the middle of a Bank Holiday or Sunday for trivial things like light bulbs blown or they have bunged up the shower pump with hair and can't be bothered to clean it out themselves. And, even further, and this is shocking I know particularly in the current climate but sometimes you just don't like the person, something about them puts the hairs up on the back of your neck, they have an aggressive disposition right from the off.

I always take the view with my business that it's my business and I'll sell to who the hell I like!

Its a good point Roger Rat that if you don't need to sell, then in the current economic climate chances are that you're not going to want to go even longer of boat when what you've got does the business and some. The F37 will do lots of what many want to do and going bigger and better is nice, but not necessarily need to have. Its a handy size and I for one will stay with mine until outlook improves.

Of course if there is the perfect deal out there......

Yup these prices are rediculous David, £300k plus for a 2002 S37 dont supppose it cost that new in 2002?

Maybe its a typing error or a miscalculation on the £/euro rate it is in Marbella, or maybe they are plain daft
