What does breezy mean?

Ever since the BBC dropped the Met Office as their weather provider their on-line weather site indicates that the selected day is breezy – or worse. If you click on the lower hourly section anything up to 7 mph is a light wind, 8 mph counts as breezy. The effect is that even the calmest of days is usually listed as being breezy.

I know the general BBC site is not aimed at sailors but this seems ridiculous.

In my highly unscientific comparison of the Met office forecasts for our area with the BBC they have frequently differed dramatically and the Met office seems to have been closer to the truth for much more of the time. What's your impression?

The Met Office provide their online forecast as usual.

I get my weather from a variety of sources, the Met Office being one and just a mile or so up the road.
