All of the above. It comes into it's own when crossing the busy Dover straights. AIS, the lot.
I don't/can't use charts. I havn't got the time to learn let alone sharpen a pencil and use a glorified kids drawing compass with two brass pointy ends.

I do carry an road atlas somewhere on the boat and follow the dotted ferry lines if my iPad's battery is flat. Sun glare is a problem but I just carry a f%#king big umbrella, which is useless for stopping the charts blowing everywhere. Trying to fold the pishing thing causes me alot of stress.

I still have an old Oxford School Atlas circa 1980 that gets hauled out occasionally.
