..........email about Premier Fuels and Winter layup treatments. As a Premier berth holder I got one earlier today.

As most of the fuel they supply is already treated with Soltron they advise that no other treatment from other suppliers should be added and even list the other suppliers that should NOT be used! It will stop the Soltron working.

On the associated web page they recomend a three step approach,

Test - Recover - Protect
Test
You can have your fuel tested for "as little as £60" - Oh and SDM fuel solutions can do that for you! It says you should check filters etc which can reveal signs of contamination but wont show underlying issues. Filters and separators it seems are the last line of defence against engine failure; just because they are clean, does not mean that you're in the clear. Oh my God!!! Now is the time to panic!!!

Recover
If you need to recover you can clean the tanks if necessary (subject to the test) or double dose with Soltron and test again in six months. Mmmmmm

Protect
Oh you can double dose with Soltron again!!

All meant in the best possible taste of course! I am sure it is meant to help but the hint at scare tactics to sell fuel testing is a bit saddo

I got the diesel bug in Brighton a few years back and after a £600 tank clean and heavy dosing eversince its still there. Not much but its still there. Better go buy some Soltron and start double dosing I guess!!!

You could of course choose to use a different type of fuel additive for the winter layup but if you have bought fuel from Premier marinas during the year you can choose any additive other than

• Star Brite – Bio Diesel
• Eradicate
• Marine 16 Diesel Bug Treatment
• GrotoMar 82
• Kathon
• Diesel plus (Yachticon)
• Wasp Biokem
• Forton
• Fuel Doctor
• Fuel set
• Startron

Can you tell me where the list is? I had a look on their website but I can't find it.

I am not an expert on diesel bug but I have established that there are two types of treatment (1) Enzyme and (2) Biocide.

The consensus in magazine articles seems to be that you should use biocide.

Soltron is an enzyme based product. So it would seem that if you want to follow the advice to use a biocide (and marine 16 seems to be the best) then you should not buy your fuel from Premier.

I think MDL fuel is also treated with Soltron.. they also offer to sell you a winter top up bottle.
Is all fuel treated with it ?

I use Fuel Set and I am sure there was a test recently (either on here or in the mag) that proved Soltron was not so good. Yes I know everyone raves about it, but it didn't do well in the test. Maybe someone else read that report?

Anyway not too happy with Premier's attitude in the notice. Maybe they should have asked their berth holders to vote on the addative they wanted.

I dont know what to do now as I want an addative to also help reduce smoke.

Why is it you cant use the others, do they kill the Soltron?
