Met someone the other day, looking to buy a boat for £.5m Second hand, couple of years old so no pain of VAT and all the bugs ironed out by someone else....

3 cabins, need room for entertaining, didnt like the open style what should they go for?

Sunseeker (find a few more quid), Fairline, Princess or Sealine... Or what about Azimut or Ferreti...

CAT's, MAN's or Volvo's

What is the general consensus amongst you all.

Suspect you'd struggle to find a two year old Sealine worth half a million!

How longs a piece of string?
Depends a lot on what type of boating he wants it for.
Could go older much larger classic gentlemans yacht etc
More Modern but still dated 90s type Big Princess Fairline Sunseeker.Grandbanks
Later 90s Trader, medium sized Princess Etc

Nice problem

Well, you've got all the main manufacturers in that price bracket although I'm not sure I'd spend £500k on a Sealine - bit like spending £50k on a VW
Its a good idea to buy a 2yr old boat not only from the VAT and reliability point of view but also from the resale point of view. Doubtless your mate will want to change the boat fairly quickly after buying it. This happens to most people as it normally takes 3 or 4 boats to find out what you want out of a boat
With £500k for a used boat, the world is your lobster. My personal choice would be some kind of Ferretti but these are megabucks so you probably wont get more than a 50footer at 2yrs old or something like a Fairline Squadron 58 which is a nice boat. It also depends on where you are going to keep the boat. As this is a first boat, it might be a good idea to buy a boat having a dealer and engine service agent nearby.
In the end its going to be about personal choice so spend as much time as you can looking at different boats and make a considered choice
