Do we need paper work, passport etc for our 3 year old yorkie when we bring him with us from south Ireland to the isles of scilly, France and the uk in the summer? Can anyone point me in the direction of a checklist please? I hear the French officials can be strict.
Also, what paper work exactly do i need for the vessel? I assume, proof of insurance, life raft & life jacket service proof, qualifications and passports etc, but have i left anything out?

Re the dog, to the best of my knowledge there is no restriction on movement between Eire and the UK (which includes the Scillies) BUT there is from France to the UK.
You will need a pet passport and the requisite treatment certificate from a French vet issued 24 hrs before entering the UK. You say your trip is in the summer, - note that if the dog is not yet microchipped and vaccinated for rabies, there is a lead-in time in excess of 6 months from vaccination until the dog can first enter the UK. You can see the full details of the Pet Passport if you look at the official site at defra.gov.uk.

You cannot bring a dog from France to England on your own boat, only by approved carrier and route and in accordance with the Pet Passport Scheme. I suspect there is a similar restriction on returning to Eire from France as well.

All the marina's in the Channel Islands have "No Dogs in Marina" notices, and one boat with a dog on was evicted from St.Helier marina while we were there last summer. They were only allowed to berth against the waiting pontoon outside the marina.

Best to contact the marina's in the CI to find out just what they will allow.

We had our dog transported from the UK to Lanzarote, I think what we had to do applies to France, which is getting a pet passport, which is includes rabies injection, allow a good 6 months for this as they have their injection wait a couple of weeks then have a blood test, from that date you then have to wait 6 months before you can bring your pet back to the UK. Our dogs first rabies injection was not enough so we had to do it all again, all taking extra time.

AFAIK if you travel through different EU countries with a dog you need a pets passport; if you come into the UK it may NOT be on your own boat - you must use a recognised carrier Footsoldier is right; you can only come into the UK 6 months AFTER a successful rabies blood test for your dog, hich is 1 month after the vaccine etc;..... so if you start tomorrow you can bring your dog into the UK on 9th October.. not exacly summer!!!

[/ QUOTE ] Out of your list you only need passports - none of the other things are mandatory.

However, you will need proof of ownership of the boat and proof of VAT paid.

He has been chipped and vaccinated almost 2 years ago. I guess the best thing is to go to the vet and see if he has everything he needs prior to now. How do people manage to bring pets when on circumnavigations? I don’t understand how they do it at all given all the red tape involved. We are visiting St Helier, and had planned to do a week there, so im glad to hear your comments Philip. Seems the best thing to avoid the hassle is to leave him at home :-(
