Hi

From a previous post, I think it is clear that people feel I will be best placed to try and sell my Bolero myself via the likes of Apollo duck and Boatsandoutboards etc. But the key seems to be price.

My Bolero Quarter tonner is in overall good condition for her age (launched 1979) She has good sails which were new in 2013 and has been well maintained with regular upgrades to running rigging etc since I purchased her in 2006.

Overall she is a good Club Racing boat that would be a good introduction to the Quarter ton class as well. I am advertising her for £6950 but as I can't find any comparable Bolero's on the market I don't know if I am being realistic with my pricing. The following is a link to the advert http://apolloduck.net/390427

Does anyone out there have experience of the Bolero who could give me a sensible view on what a realistic asking price should be and If I have my pricing correct or not?

Thanks for your help with my previous questions.

I think the issue is that, to an extent, a quarter tonner is worth what its worth irrelevant of how much you spend on it.

I had £5k in my mind based on a reasonable one that was up here and sold a few years back but it didn't have new sails.

You may get nearer your price given the cost of a suit of sails etc but if anyone offers near £6k I'd be tempted to bite their hand off

That said its not my money and its easy to sell other peoples boats for them! :)

Can't argue its a lot of boat for the money

PS would you not be better targetting the "yachts and yachting" racing type audience

It's strange as I would have thought a bit more, knowing how well they sail and perform to handicap.

If I had enough money, I 'd have a quarter tonner as a fun Club racer.

Cheers

Thanks for your thoughts Piddy.

Your thoughts are similar to mine and were behind my pricing strategy. Lets just hope someone out there is looking for a good club racing boat for a reasonable price.

Based on the time of year I am obviously open to negotiation if someone is looking for an end of season Bargain !!!!

Rember you can always come down in price when negotiating but never up.
Your starting price is perhaps a bit a bit ambitious but if you add ono into your ad. then it shows a willingness to consider offers.
If I was looking for good one I think I would offer 5.5K for starters and see where we ended up. ( I used to own RAVELS. Great boat with all extras like shot filled keel, skin fittings with flush sealing plugs etc)
PS having just looked at your ad I see that you are inviting offers. Nice boat..good luck.

I don't think that anyone offers the asking price these days so are unlikely to be deterred by a slightly high asking price. It seems normal for boats to be sold for 20% less than asking price due to the depressed market for boats.
In the end, a boat is worth what someone will pay for it not what the seller has invested in it but a well equipped and presented example will usually sell quicker.

Sold my last dinghy for the asking price, but that was carefully under the asking price of comparable sail numbers.
True, it was a dinghy, but similar price!
Racing people will pay for performance, up to a point.

£500 on the hull price is no big deal, compared to what racing even a small yacht can cost.
It's the total cost of hitting the start line with a sorted boat that matters.

People looking for small/cheap racing boats should be placing a lot of value on how competitive it will be and how 'sorted' it is.
What won't sell is 'sordid', even if its very cheap.
