What? David Teall\'s boat is for sale for only £40K?

I just don't believe that.

This must be one of the finest long distance cruising live-aboarders in the Med.

It came as a shock that he is willing to accept only £40,000 for Retreat from Battle. This will be a fantastic bargain for someone.

Just look at it:- Retreat from Battle II

I have no financial connection with Pat & David and this IS NOT a sale advert. I'm just amazed that such a high quality boat is up for so little money.

Certainly looks a bargain. Asking prices for Voyager 35s seem to range from £45,000 to £55,000. Could she be in need of a refit?

Not if the photos are anything to go by. The website seems to have been put together specifically for the sales process and I can't see someone like the Webmaster of the CA Med Section and a retired headteacher at a prestigeous public school being devious in such a matter. I'm just wondering why they are selling her.

Blimey, there must be some right ole piecs of junk round that neck of the woods if this is one of the good ones. It's got lime green bimini and cushions for starters, and has plentiful (ugh) Treadmaster. No aircon, no aft cabin, 35 weedy feet long and was already 15 years old when the current owner got hold of the thing. Close inspection of log shows it has gone taken years to get to the Ionian and they can't stand it any longer. I bet someone could offer 32 and he would do the deal on the spot.

All in the interests of balance, of course.

Jeez, you're not wrong they are a bit sudden aren't they?

Looking at the other photos I would also be suspicious of anybody who bakes little macaroons with glace cherries in their galley. It's just not right.

If he were a retired headteacher from a comprehensive would he be more likely to lie? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

He was headmaster at Battle Abbey which is a compact and minor public school, so I imagine that he is unlikely to tell more than a small lie here and there.

joke gorn too far

I'm sorry but you can't write someone even told small lies without libeling them, unless you have indisputable evidence. Better snip this before the chap sees it.

Re: joke gorn too far

of course you could write that comprehensive school heads are 'sale menteurs,' who like to get their failing students off the roll long before the exams are sat in order to massage the figures. That would be a) true and b) not libelous because it's generalised.

Re: joke gorn too far

You're not suggesting that TCM is the kind of person who would accuse someone, especially the headmaster of a public school, of lying, are you? I'd suggest having a chat with a libel lawyer before making such allegations /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: joke gorn too far

I think that saying someone is unlikely to tell more than a small lie is actually a positive statement. Unless he can show he has never told any lie at all in his life he is on a sticky wicket.
Another thing to consider when you hear all about libel and courts is that it is a Civil Offence and there isn't any legal-aid or No-win, no-fee available, so if all those gobby people you see on telly, shouting about suing people, have the odd 5 or 10 grand to spare it's Game-On.

Re: joke gorn too far

Are you suggesting Mr Teall doesn't have 5 grand to spare? He'll have £40,000, as soon as he can find a dunce.

Re: joke gorn too far

Ah, now that may be actionable if you are suggesting he is selling a bag of shite. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: joke gorn too far

Pah, publish and be damned. Anyway, I only commented upon the likelihood of his lying, not his past record.

However, the site does say something along the lines of it being fitted out to a very high standard. Which I reckon is a teeny bit of a lie really: on a scale of all med boats I reckon it is only average, or even possibly slightly below average if you don't much like the screaming green.
