What cordless drill ?

You can get these things which plug into your Cigarette Lighter Socket which have a 240v Three Pin Socket in. I use one for my laptop as my battery is rubbish. So just plug in your 3 pin plug which charges the Cordless Battery. Available from Car Accessory Shops.

Would a fast charge drill battery charger be a bit more demanding than a small laptop trickle charger?

Not really.
A typical drill battery is say, 2AH at 12V to 18V.
That's 36Wh at most.
To fast charge that is 50W or so, allowing for some inefficiency.
Typical small inverter is 150W, but I have seen smaller.

I have an old 9.6V NiCd drill, which will charge directly from 12V. It's a cheap one from Screwfix, but it has lasted ok and been useful. Now needs new batteries after about 9 years(?).
You pays yer money, makes yer choice....

I have a small 12V De Walt one. The small size is handy on a boat, and the fact that it's 12V means I can just power it directly from the boat. I kept an old battery pack casing when the battery expired, and made a long lead with big crocodile clips on it to go straight from the boat battery to the inside of the old battery pack. This then connects to the terminals in the drill handle in the usual way. That said, I've never had to use it because I've never run it long enough on one job to flatten a battery pack. I don't charge it on board, but I agree that a small inverter and the usual mains charger would be easiest.

I have often found size is an issue when working in lockers or engine compartments,I use a silverline 240v 450w angle drill (photo left) very compact but you obviously need the method to power it. I was looking at this Draper 14.4v battery angle drill ,£59 on Amazon ,looks a good buy,may be able to charge with a car type voltage booster,I use one to run my laptop 16v 3ah off my 12v boat battery, got the unit from Maplins circa £35.

Does anyone know if its possable to buy a full sized cordless drill that can be charged from a 12v or 24v power surply and any recommendations please. Thanks in anticipation.

I have an old 12v cordless drill which I removed the battery and wired up with a 12v surply utility plug to keep on the boat. It is good enough for day to day work or removing screws etc. Gets a bit ropey if I am too far from the surply socket, so I have a removable '12v' surply extension lead so the normal wire length (about 10ft) does not add too much resistance.

When I know I have heavy work to do I bring my 18v drill from home and the charger if lots to do, it will charge via my inverter but wont shut down so I set a time for 60 mins, seems ok this way so far.
