I am going to stimulate the performance of this years antifoul.

Anyone know the most convenient form for throwing handfuls of copper like substances into the pot of Cruiser Uno?

Its cuprous oxide (Copper I oxide ) in antifouling not cupric oxide (copper II oxide), the common black copper oxide, except for the light colours in which they use cuprous thiocyanate.

Jim, I have just done the same thing. I put (if I remember right) 500g of fine copper flake into a 2.5ltr pot of micron extra. Seemed to go on fine but too early to say wots wot. If you want to try the same thing let me know and I should be able to get you some. PM me your address.

It 's useless to add copper(I)oxide in antifoul because it is readily oxidised to copper(II)oxide by the oxygen in the air or the water .
Just use metallic Cu powder .
By the way where do you buy copper(I)oxide ?
People who need it prepare it in situ by reduction of copper(II)

[/ QUOTE ] Personally I have no recollection of ever having bought Cu2O, having had no use for it but if necessary I would have bought it from any laboratory chemical suppliers along with all other lab chemicals. (£32.50 for 250 g from Fisher Scientific , also available elsewher in larger, 25kg sacks) Bought a good deal of CuO though.

I'm not sure I understand your opening statement as Cu2O is not oxidised air. AFAIK dry, solid cuprous componds in general are not oxidised by air.
