What century is the MCA living in???

Just had my SSR renewal notice through. Please send a CHEQUE for £35 to....... If there have been any changes please WRITE TO ME at the above address....
a) After considerable searching I have eventually found my cheque book; the last cheque I wrote was in 2010
b) I shall have to come out of isolation tomorrow to go to the post office to buy a stamp so I can post my renewal

Is there really no alternative way of renewing? Crazy in this day and age.

Lol, we use the internet stamp service a lot because it’s almost impossible to calculate postage these days, esp for larger letters and outside UK!

Thanks. That is useful to know because i have been thinking of selling a lot of books and other things that are too light and small to need a courier but I haven't fancied standing in a Post Office queue to post them.

That's true but mine seems to take more notice of a letter. Presumably because he thinks I have thought more about I you want to say, and am willing to invest in stationery and a stamp!

Looks as if currently only new registrations are handled on-line; I didn't work out how to use this for a renewal recently.

I phoned the SSR people about paying by cheque. The very helpful and friendly person there told me I could pay by phone

Mine is due at the end of the month so thinking about chasing them up

Due to expire on 26 June so it's probably worth chasing yours

Ho was your last cheque written 10 years ago if your SSR was last renewed 5 years ago? Maybe there is a way of doing it online, and that's what you did in 2015.

That's useful, I have a load of old phones I want to get rid of.

I think the MCA run the SSR very poorly and are not really the suitable organisation to do it. I had some issues some years ago when I tried to get a previous owner list (yes they do hold that information). I was originally told that I could get this information on registration, but when I asked for it I found the charges and complication not worth while. The SSR needs to be passed to an organisation that has the wherewithal to provide a decent online based service (at a reasonable price obviously, it is not complicated to run this). Also the SSR, CG registration, EPIRB and radio registrys should all be joined up, so information is in one place. Perhaps the RYA should be the orginisation doing this.

Not a reflection on the people who we deal with at the MCA, just the organisation.
